The group, Nebraska for Sensible Marijuana Laws, has gathered about 15,000 signatures so far.

"I believe it's time," Mark Jensen said. Jensen is the Dodge County coordinator and pushed the petition at the Fremont library.
"Sometimes our leadership comes from above and sometimes it comes from below and I think the leadership is going to have to come from registered voters," Jensen said.
Registered voter, Merlin Oerman, 89, said he has mixed emotions about legalizing marijuana. But he believes the issue should be on the ballot.
"I think we should have a say in it. The voters should have a say in it," Oerman said.
The national group, Smart Approaches to Marijuana, has a chapter in Nebraska co-chaired by former state Sen., John Kuehn.
"There is no such thing as medical marijuana," Kuehn said.
Kuehn said he got involved with the group after listening to legislative hearings about marijuana.
"During that time, I saw up front, the public policy debate on expanded marijuana legislation and just how bad the information and science was," Kuehn said.
Kuehn said his group is here to educate not fight the petition for signatures.
