The City of Sarasota has voted to decriminalize possession of marijuana under 20 grams.
The cannabis civil citation was unanimously approved Tuesday.
Possession of the designated amount will be punishable by a civil penalty under certain qualifying conditions.
The vote also covered cannabis paraphernalia.
Possession of cannabis or cannabis paraphernalia remains unlawful, but will now be punishable by a civil citation if it is under 20 grams.
Violators will pay a $100 fine or complete 10 hours of community service for an organization approved by the city of Sarasota within 60 days of the violation.
